Twizel is the closest town to Mount Cook
and the Tasman Glacier. Twizel has a myriad of lakes including
Lake Ruataniwha, scene of the world rowing championships,
Lake Pukaki, Lake Ohau, Lake Benmore and Lake Tekapo. Twizel
is close to Omarama the worlds gliding centre and magnificent
Aoraki / Mt Cook. Twizel has countless miles of fly fishing
rivers and canals including the Ahuriri River and Tekapo
River brimming with world record rainbow trout, brown trout
and salmon.
The
Mackenzie Basin is located in the middle of the South Island
at an average of more than 300 meters above sea level.
